When Simply Getting Through is Enough
There are days when nothing works. Days when you wake up and everything feels heavy, without any clear reason why. Your body doesn’t cooperate. Your thoughts go in circles. Everything you meant to do stays undone. And somehow, you know right away — this is one of those days.
I’ve learned to meet these days differently than I used to. Not with frustration or self-criticism, but with a bit more understanding. Because it’s rarely about lack of will. It’s not that I don’t care or don’t want to try. It’s simply that there’s nothing left to give.
For a long time, days like this filled me with shame. A voice inside would tell me I should do better, try harder, push through. That others manage more. That I’m failing somehow. But I’ve slowly come to see that those thoughts don’t help — they only make everything heavier.
Not being able to do much doesn’t mean you’ve failed. It just means you’re human. Our bodies and minds don’t run on schedules or expectations. Some days ask more of us than we have to give. And on those days, the bravest thing might be to stop pushing. To lower the bar completely. To let it be enough to breathe, to exist, to get through the hours.
I’ve started to see these days not as setbacks, but as part of the rhythm. They aren’t empty — they’re quiet. And in that quiet, something is often happening beneath the surface, even if I can’t see it yet.
These days don’t define me. What matters is how I meet them. Whether I punish myself for them, or allow myself some gentleness. Whether I demand strength, or allow rest. Sometimes the strongest thing you can do is not to stand tall, but to stay where you are — and not give up.
And that is enough.
