The past weeks haven’t gone the way I planned.
I’ve had several blog posts ready to publish, waiting in the background, but my body simply didn’t cooperate. Pneumonia and illness took more out of me than I expected, and December became more about getting through the days than creating anything new.
That can be hard — wanting to do things, having ideas and motivation, but not having the strength to follow through. When the mind is ready but the body says no, everything slows down.
Still, in the middle of all that, there were good moments.
We spent Christmas at my in-laws this year, and it was a really nice and calm celebration. The kids had been looking forward to it for a long time, and seeing their excitement made everything worth it. Watching their faces light up when they opened their gifts — that’s what Christmas is really about for me. Being together with the people you love, sharing simple moments.
The food was good, as it always is, and the atmosphere was warm. But the weeks leading up to Christmas kind of slipped by this year. Both my wife, two of the kids, and I were sick, so our focus shifted to just getting through each day.
Now, little by little, I’m starting to feel better. Not back to normal yet — but better. And that’s enough for now. I can feel the motivation slowly returning, the wish to create, to write, to share again.
So this is me starting again. Slowly. On my own terms.
I think it’s important to be honest about these periods too — not only when things are going well. Life isn’t a straight line, and that’s okay.
Small steps still count.
